Concert Review: Mount Kimbie
“It’s a place inside all of us where buses arrive on time.”
-Mount Kimbie, Fader Interview
Monday night was tune after tune with Mount Kimbie. Their newest album, Love What Survives, has already been a favorite of mine to listen to while I’m working or hanging out with friends, so to see them bring it to life here in Cologne made it even better. The way they combined the live set and their classic Mount Kimbie sound had us dancing non-stop with smiles from ear to ear. When listening to their old albums, they have a detailed and manicured electronic sound that dresses to impress. This latest album definitely takes risks by building more onto the sound they’ve already established behind their name — and they proved that on Monday when I saw them live. In this latest album, they create a rhythm-driven sound that doesn’t fall far from their electronic side, but successfully incorporates the work of a full band.
Their creative and lively set at Die Kantine has been one of my favorites this autumn, so be sure to catch them in your city the next time they’re around.
